Dr. Sarah Bonza, founder of Bonza Health, is a board-certified Family Physician, Certified Menopause Practitioner, and a trusted expert in women’s health.
She completed her medical training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine during a pivotal time when the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) Study sparked widespread fear around menopause hormone therapy (MHT). Despite the lingering stigma, Dr. Bonza understands that MHT, when used appropriately, can be a powerful tool to alleviate symptoms, improve quality of life, and support long-term health for women.
In addition to her expertise in menopause, Dr. Bonza is certified in Functional Medicine, is a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. Her approach integrates evidence-based medical therapies with lifestyle changes that promote not just symptom relief but lasting health and vitality.

A patient came into my office recently — 43 years old, regular cycles since adolescence, diagnosed with PMDD in her late twenties. She had spent more than a decade managing it well: an SSRI during the luteal phase, consistent sleep, regular exercise, a diet that worked for her. She knew her pattern. But in the past year, that pattern had changed. This presentation is common in my practice, and the reason for it is something most clinicians were never taught: the relationship between estrogen and histamine, and what happens to that relationship during perimenopause.
